Next to Silence is a band that includes only compositions from the renowned ECM label in its repertoire. The group has been established ten years ago as a result of a radio program on the Jazz FM Skopje hosted by one of the band's members. The specific character and authentic ambient of the ECM compositions are the fundament that Next to Silence uses to build its own sound and to bring it further in direction that is detached from the original melody and structure. The rearrangement of ECM compositions enables the band to shift into unpredictable musical routes and to generate soundscapes that differs from the original one. Consequently, the motto where the band's name emanates from (...the most beautiful sound next to silence...) enables their sound to flirt with something that is closest to silence i.e. the noise and harmony. Next to Silence can be quiet and loud, to transpose the listeners into the tranquility of phantasmagoric landscapes or to transpose the audience into the splendid chaos. Next to Silence mainly performs rearranged compositions from the rich opus of Enrico Rava, Carla Bley, John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, Terje Rypdal, Shankar, Jan Garbarek, Jim Pepper, Gary Burton, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Bill Frisell, Jon Balke, Tomasz Stanko and Nils Petter Molvaer, among others. They have recently started composing their own music that will be also a part of this performance.
