Through his decades of work as a sideman—with Tom Waits, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, T Bone Burnett, The Lounge Lizards, Caetano Veloso, Robert Plant, Alen Ginsberg, Arto Lindsay, David Sylvian, The Black Keys, Joe Henry, Allen Toussaint among many more, and, most notably, his regular work with John Zorn, guitarist Marc Ribot has established himself as a six-string savant. However, those potent gigs represent only the tip of the iceberg of his musical endeavors. Marc Ribot helped Tom Waits define his new musical direction. Marc has released over 20 albums under his own name over a 35-year career, exploring everything from the pioneering jazz of Albert Ayler with his group “Spiritual Unity”, to the Cuban son of Arsenio Rodríguez with two critically acclaimed releases under “Marc Ribot Y Los Cubanos Postizos”. His avant post-rock band, Ceramic Dog continues the lineage of his earlier experimental Rootless Cosmopolitans and Shrek. His latest venture is The Young Philadelphians who pays tribute to twin legacies: the mind-blowing harmolodic punk-funk of Ornette Coleman's legendary Prime Time band and the sweet, optimistic pulse of the vintage Philly Soul. Ribot enlists bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma and drummer Calvin Weston, both Prime Time alumni and Philadelphia natives, this time along with another Ornette’s sideman Al McDowell plus a newly added 3-piece string section to do the job.
