The End is an experimental music group that emerged in 2018, bringing together an explosive mix of talents from Norway, Sweden, and Austria. Formed by members with extensive experience in a wide variety of creative music ensembles over the past years - such as Fire! Orchestra, Cloroform, Møster, The Thing, Ultralyd, MoHa, Datarock, The Core, Noxact, NU-ensemble, Brutal Blues and many others - The End fuses a broad range of musical influences into something entirely new. Individually, they have collaborated with artists like Sonic Youth, Neneh Cherry, Four Tet, Peter Brötzmann, Zu, Merzbow, Chick Corea and others, performing in venues as diverse as opera houses, rock festivals, jazz clubs, theaters, museums, and outdoor spaces all over the world. Led by the legendary saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and fellow sax virtuoso Kjetil Møster, The End also features the powerful vocals of Ethiopia-born Sofia Jernberg, alongside Anders Hana and Børge Fjordheim, who bring their vast experience in noise-jazz and creative collectives. Their music is a unique blend of industrial grindcore, free jazz, and noise, infused with elements from Mauritanian, Ethiopian, Indian, and Scandinavian folk traditions. The group’s sound is an intense, poetic, and brutal journey through extreme energy, melodic beauty, and sonic experimentation. Their live performances are known for their ability to create new associations in the listener’s mind, blending rock’s hard riffs, folk’s natural beauty, and the wild fantasies of jazz into a coherent yet unpredictable musical experience.
